ChessWhiz Live Stream

Hey guys,

First, I should introduce myself. I've been playing chess competitively for about 15 years, and once competed scholastically at the national level (in the USA). I teach private chess lessons in my local area, and have even put on week-long camps. Since I've played speed chess on lichess.org for over two years now, I'm a bit of an old-timer on this site. :-)

Anyway, I'm starting up something new: a live stream of commentary while playing bullet chess. I'm looking to provide something that's entertaining, yet mildly educational. We'll kick it off by streaming the Lichess Daily Bullet tournament here: http://en.lichess.org/tournament/a6Y7bexa

When I'm broadcasting, you'll be able to tune in at this link: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/chesswhiz

Feel free to post in this thread with any comments, feedback, suggestions, criticism, etc. If people are interested, I'll plan to do broadcasts on a regular schedule, and can mix up the content with commentaries, slower games, and whatever else people might find useful.

Looking forward to it!
The more of this kind of thing, the better. So a thumbs up from me.
Awesome! I look forward to watching your broadcasts.

You may want to use Twitch.tv instead of Ustream because most chess broadcasters (and their audiences) are on that. That would hopefully boost your viewer numbers.
Thanks for the interesting broadcast! It's always nice to see how pro's are playing. I will be looking forward for the next one!
We had a great first broadcast! I'm glad you all enjoyed it. We peaked at over 20 simultaneous viewers, which is very encouraging for a first cast. I ended up winning the tournament, which was a nice bonus, as well. :-) For those who missed it, the recording is marked "Episode 1" and currently still available for viewing on the stream page.

I actually looked into Justin.tv, Livestream.com, and Twitch.tv as hosts for the broadcast, but since I'm currently using a Mac, it was Ustream that had the best support for my hardware. I'll continue to explore our options for switching over to Twitch.tv.

Next broadcast is scheduled! It will be at the same time as the first one, exactly one day later, so that's 3:00 PM (GMT) on Friday. You might have to do a little work to convert to your local time. (Does anyone have a suggestion to make this easier
for users around the world?) That's 8:00 AM PST, and 11:00 AM EST. We'll play another Lichess bullet tournament, then finish off with some rated bullet games against lichess users.

See you then!
One can use any kind of free time conversion services, for example this one:
http://www.worldtimeserver.com/convert_time_in_UTC.aspx

In the window ''When is the event in (UTC/GMT)?'' we have to choose a planned time and date of event (GMT), and then press ''Submit'' key. In the next window we have to insert our location (timezone), for me i selected ''Russia, Moscow''. When the page automatically refreshed i got a result: ''when it is 15:00 GMT in Russia-Moscow it will be 19:00.
Looks quite an easy and convinient for me )))
Episode 2 is complete! For those who missed it, it's still available in the archives at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/chesswhiz. Unfortunately, it's split into two parts, because my computer crashed while streaming, so be sure to start with "Part 1."

Congrats to Takeda for winning the tournament! Although I ended getting "only" third place, we had a lot of fun on stream. Clarkey even shared a sneak preview of the upcoming new tournament page design at the end of the broadcast. Check it out!

Next broadcast will be the same time of day, 3pm GMT, on Monday the 21st. Looking forward to it!
We had a great time on the cast today, playing a tough bullet tournament. Congrats to Takeda for taking the hotly-contested victory! As usual, you can catch the recording in the archives.

Next cast will be Thursday the 24th, at the same time (3:00 PM GMT). This time, for Episode 4, we won't be playing the Daily Bullet, so if you have a favorite time control you want to have emphasized, post in this thread and make your voice heard.

See you there!
