I'm too bad at chess.

Well chess shouldn't be played without suitable financial resources, described clearly in @ghahhahs blog, sorry if I'm advertising but i liked that blog very much.

But you want to play chess as a hobby sport. So you can solve puzzles online, play numerous games, stream and enjoy!
And if you wanna succeed, then read Artur Yusupov's books, then you have "My System" by Aron Nimzowitsch and finally "Dvoretsky's endgame manual" which is at another level :(. if you don't wanna read complicated Dvoretsky's manual then get the Silman's Complete Endgame Course book. Its also very informative and simple. Also watch chess games from Agadmator's or Eric Rosen or GothamChess whatever, and keep yourself updated with chess news so that you don't lose interest.

And lastly, try to participate in one or two otb tournaments, it will help you shed nervousness while playing face-to-face.

One final word:
You asked for other hobbies. According to me, the best hobby is technical science. You can also engage yourself in various experimentations, do some computer programming, learn with ChatGPT, etc.

Hope you got the points.
Have a nice day!!!!!!!!!
