GM (Grandmaster) > 2500 FIDE rating
IM (International Master) > 2400 FIDE rating
FM (FIDE Master) > 2300 FIDE rating
In reality there are more complex rules for achieving these titles. The ratings listed by RedRoachDK in post #7 is the minimum FIDE rating you must have if you are given a title because of a great result in a specific championship, like if you achieve a rating above 2600 in a championship against opponents rated above 2380 in average, you can get the GM title even if your FIDE rating is only above 2300.
As you can see, IM is a greater title than FM.

Not sure I'd call either of them great (exactly). But an IM is better.
@Hedgehog1963 Grandmaster is the highest rank in chess. There is absolutely no rank as World Champion.
Introduced in 1978 with WFM, FM ranks below the title of International Master but ahead of Candidate Master.
