Play - analyze - do regular exercise - get somewhere good in life to keep your mood good (A good mood improves the quality of your play and analyzing), and do those things for years.

10,000 chess games you play, an M you become.
100,000,000 chess games you play, a GM you become.

Our youngest GM is 12, so that's approximately 5,000 days. If this were true, he would've had to play 20,000 games a day, so that's one game every 4 seconds :)

On a more serious note, I don't think just playing will ever get you there.

@#14 If you play 100,000,000 chess games you can become a GM easily. A grandmother that is.

To get GM:

Step one: Acquire 3 norms from tournaments
Step two: Acquire 2500 FIDE rating
Step three: Stick them in a crafting table

BOOM!
You got yo GM title :)
