I agree that experimenting is necessary in order to change for the better. That requires some kind of feedback mechanics though, to find out which changes are perceived as good or bad.
For example a notification popping up, pointing to the username, saying "Your sound and board preferences can be found under your username now. What do you think of this change?" with some options "like", "didn't notice", "dislike" and an option to give feedback and watch others'.
