A suboptimal solution to turning off the feature of opponents adding time.

It is annoying to not be able to turn off the option to allow your opponent to add more time to your clock. Many players have requested to have that option and the pleas seem to fall on deaf ears. Thus the only solution seems to be to simply block those players who have a tendency to add time.
I still cannot fathom the thinking that led to Lichess implementing such a grotesque feature in the first place. Failing to make the feature adjustable by the user is another egregious lapse.

In the past the response from Lichess has been something along the lines of "Why should they not be able to do it," as happened when I asked the question on Twitter, as if they are unaware that adding time is not allowed in chess. There is also a general attitude that since the site is free, users who don't like certain features may go elsewhere. It is a real pity, since Lichess is fantastic in almost every other aspect.

I have not tried blocking players who do it. Maybe I should. So far, my strict policy has been to never resign when my opponent adds time. In usual circumstances I never allow my clock to run out deliberately. But when an opponent adds time in a winning position, I have no qualms about letting the clock run out. There was once a player who added something like four hours to my clock in a winning position, even though I was not being dilatory in my play. (I should have every right to look for even remote chances within the time I have.) So I switched to another wndow and started reading the news. In fact, after a while, I had completely forgotten about the game on Lichess that was still running. About an hour and a half later, I suddenly heard that game-ending alert from Lichess. It turns out that my opponent had got tired of waiting, and had resigned! That was satisfying!

But Lichess could easily avoid such unpleasantness in the playing experience by making the feature optional.
@Shredderroy It seems like a great way to be able to finish an interesting game instead of winning on time. Imagine having a exciting plan only to find you've already won on time. That'd be quite a bummer.

I'm surprised there is a non zero amount of members annoyed by this feature. Out of the thousands of games I've played I've only been given extra time a dozen times perhaps. And it was obvious my opponent just wanted to finish the game because he was enjoying it. And why not just resign when your original time has run out? I really don't believe this is causing irritation on a regular basis.
What a non problem this is. Just resign if you want to. Why do you care if your opponent gives you more time?
Nikola-Kostic,
I care because I want to play a game that has the same odds for both sides, no extra time, no extra pieces. That way if I win then it is without any extra help which is a better victory than if I had assistance.
@Nikola-Kostic What if the losing player is the one adding the time? Do you resign and lose rating points (and pride?) because this feature would force you to waste time (not that playing chess isn't wasting time in itself)? Don't you want an option to play chess the "normal" way? Just as I have the option to not play antichess, I should have the option to not have extra time added.
If the losing player is adding time CHECKMATE HIM. That is the point of the game. He can add as much time as he wants, if you're winning then just checkmate him.
